Squash & Pumpkin Cookbooks – from Most to Least Favorite
The Compleat Squash by Amy Goldman
⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 out of 5 stars)
Just a big, beautiful book. More of an overall heirloom squash, pumpkin, & gourd bible than simply a cookbook, but so far the best book I’ve found that covers over 150 heirloom specimens with gorgeous photos and descriptions along with expert growing guidance and a few recipes in the back. My only complaint is that I wanted more recipes! Sadly out of print but used copies can be had – for a price.
Smitten with Squash by Amanda Paa
⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 out of 5 stars)
I love all of the well-researched information and recipes in this squash-only cookbook from Amanda Paa of Heartbeet Kitchen. My only wish is that the photos were full color. I can’t wait to try the Armenian Nutmeg Friendship Cake with Kabocha Squash puree.
The Classic Zucchini Cookbook by Nancy C. Ralston, Mariner Jordan, and Andrea Chesman
⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 out of 5 stars)
Not just zucchini, this recipe-packed cookbook has plenty of recipes for winter squash too. The zesto (zucchini pesto) and the Winter Squash Soufflé are on the top of my “must try” list.
The Pumpkin Cookbook by DeeDee Stovel
⭐⭐⭐ (3 out of 5 stars)
Described as “139 recipes celebrating the versatility of pumpkin and other squash.” Written by a caterer and cooking/nutrition teacher who has also authored other cookbooks, this is indeed a celebration of the gourd. This one has lots of creative pumpkin and squash recipes with beautiful full-color photos.
A Harvest of Pumpkin & Squash by Lou Seibert Pappas
⭐⭐⭐ (3 out of 5 stars)
I Heart Pumpkin by Ryland Peters & Small
⭐⭐ (2 out of 5 stars)
A small curated collection of 55 recipes from the editors at a publishing house.
